Outer Limits Tattoo and Body Piercing is a female and minority owned business. Given that approx. 18.3% of all U.S. businesses are minority-owned and about 19.9% of all U.S. businesses are women owned we could not be more honored that Kari Barba chose The CAMP as a location for this industry breaking business.

This fact is going to seem wild given everything we know and do now but, @karibarba, owner of Outer Limits Tattoo & Piercing was the first artist IN THE INDUSTRY to wear medical gloves while tattooing… crazy we know but way to be a trail blazer Kari!

Kari Barba is the winner of over 500 awards for tattooing including Best Tattoo Artist at the National Tattoo Convention twice, Best Overseas Tattooist, and a “Lifetime Achievement” award. She loves sharing her knowledge and skill with the staff to help everyone progress in their craft and in their art!
Meet the owner!
Kari is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota but made the move to Southern California in 1980 with the hopes of opening a tattoo shop.

Kari was inspired to start Outer Limits tattoo because it was her way to make an income doing something she wholeheartedly loves. It was what she felt she needed to do to make her mark on the world.

After setting up the first location in Long Beach (formerly Bert Grimm’s World-Famous Tattoo Studio – which fun fact is the oldest continually running shop in the US and the second oldest in the world) she built out the second location at The CAMP in Costa Mesa. Kari loved the progression the space had made within the Costa Mesa community as well as all of the offerings from healthy organic foods to sustainable products to the warm, fun and inviting atmosphere.

What’s cooler about this whole story is that yesterday @outerlimitstattoo celebrated their 38th anniversary, 42 years of tattooing for @karibarba and co-owner @yvonne797 celebrates 27 years of tattooing! These living legends are making history right in our backyard.

All of the piercers are APP (Association of Professional Pierces) and uphold the heist standards of health, safety, equipment and jewelry quality. You can expect to find jewelry from renown companies like Anatometal, Body Vision, Gorilla Glass, Maya Jewelry and many more. They stock hundreds of jewelry options so if they don’t have what you are looking for, they can most likely order it for you!
